1st Quarter – Time Out

As we round out the 1^st quarter of 2012, today I felt inclined to talk about one of the most inspiring books that I’ve read in quite some time, THE COMPOUND EFFECT. I encourage you to take inventory of your life and determine whether you’re on track with you goals or your game plan need some adjustments.

So, we’ve all heard about compounding income and how a small investment today can yield significant returns – compounded over time. Well, the same holds true in our lives and business. Little things do matter.

Success in business and life, in general, really is all about our little activities performed day in and day out.   In my world, these compounded habits can lead to amazing opportunities to create a serious residual income and an awesome lifestyle.

Improving Your Life – One Thing At a Time

A lot of times when we set our goals, they may just be one sided. Perhaps you only focused on money or physical transformations. Well, the truth of the matter is that we need to be focused and balanced in all areas of our lives that have meaning. Profound success is the result of small, smart choices completed consistently over time – and it applies to every area of our lives.

These areas may include:

• Physical
• Mental
• Family
• Lifestyle
• Spiritual
• Relationships

This is the idea behind The Compound Effect, a book written by best selling author, Darren Hardy,   also the publisher of Success Magazine. (By the way, if you don’t have a subscription to Success Magazine…you should.)

Simply put, YOUR SUCCESS will boil down to YOUR habits and the choices that YOU make and the things you commit to. Unfortunately, getting there is not always a walk in the park.  As Darren puts it, ‘the process is laborious, tedious and even boring.’

Success comes from work, discipline and commitment.  I know it’s hard to fathom but even taking the smallest steps, consistently will yield amazing rewards.

Many fail, simply because they quit. We are an instant gratification society, the microwave generation – if you will. If anything takes too long, it’s on to the next thing. Generally speaking,  less than 5%  achieve significant success in their chosen field, not because they lack the skill, street smarts or desire; rather it’s down to insufficient application of the key success drivers, over a a period of time.

If having the lifestyle of your dreams and being able to help more people is your goal, then you owe it to yourself to give it your all and to COMMIT to the process. Sure, you will have some days that you want to quit but that’s where your WHY comes in. Why are you pursuing the business, degree, project, etc in the first place?  If you don’t have a strong WHY, you will quit at the first  sign of difficulty.

Again, it’s not the strongest or the smartest who wins. It is the individual who endures, the one who continues to show up and stays in the game. The premise of Darren’s success philosophy is “slow and steady wins the race”.  As mentioned in the book, one small change in your daily routine can have a a ripple effect throughout your entire life. You can compound this effect by being consistent with this one daily action. Wow, that’s powerful!

In an effort to refocus my personal efforts, “The Compound Effect” really helped me identify what was most important and the path I needed to pursue to accomplish my goals for this year and beyond.  If you don’t have a solid plan for the remainder of the year, STOP.  It’s time for your 2^nd quarter game plan.  If achieving your goals and living the life you have always dreamed of is important to you, I encourage you to take the time to consider your habits and daily behaviors.
